A guide, not a substitute for your induction. These are general good-practice notes. Always follow your induction and the Floor Management Team's directions for this machine.

Using it safely

General good practice for a car hoist. Your induction covers the specifics for the machine at our shed.

  • Know the load limitNever exceed the hoist's rated capacity. Check the vehicle weight first.
  • Set the arms on the jacking pointsPlace the lifting pads only on the manufacturer's rated jacking points.
  • Engage the safety locksRaise to height and confirm the mechanical locks are engaged before going underneath.
  • Keep everyone clearNobody near the vehicle while it is raising or lowering. Watch for swing.
  • Settle onto the locksLower the load onto the locks and check it is stable before working under it.
  • Never work aloneThis is medium-risk gear, so at least one other inducted member must be in the workshop with you.
  • Unsure? Ask the Floor Management TeamAlways better to ask. They're happy to help and there's no silly question.

Why is it out of service?

What's happening

It's currently decommissioned while we work towards full compliance — getting it back is a priority. The main hurdle is the existing concrete slab, which may not meet the required thickness and strength, so some structural work is likely needed before the hoist can be certified. Indicative costs are around $8,000–$10,000, and we're exploring footing upgrades, independent engineering advice and grant funding. We won't put it back into service until it's certified safe and signed off, so there's no firm timing yet.
